چکیده

Objectives The purpose of this study is to compare results, safety and outcome ultra-mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) versus stented shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) for the management renal calculi sized 10–20 mm.Methods This was conducted at Urology Department, Faculty Medicine, Ain Shams University. After meeting inclusion exclusion criteria, 90 patients were randomized either ultra-mini-PCNL group or SWL through closed-envelope technique, with 45 in each group. Patient data collected preoperatively, immediately postoperatively 2 4 weeks assessing operative time, hospital stay, complications including haematuria, fever, need blood transfusion, residual stones retreatment. Results Stone-free rate (SFR) higher compared group, no statistically significant difference P-value = 0.316. As retreatment, it slightly yet insignificant 0.681.We found between both groups regarding post-operative haematuria respectively.Operative time stay significantly < 0.001 both. Conclusion Both are good treatment choices less than cm low complication rates. Stone size indices predictor retreatment. Further studies SFR based on stone interventions needed.

Renal pelvic stones: choosing shock wave lithotripsy or percutaneous nephrolithotomy.

Introduction of minimally invasive techniques has revolutionized the surgical management of renal calculi. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy and percutaneous nephrolithotomy are now both well-established procedures. Each modality has advantages and disadvantages, and the application of each should be based on well-defined factors. These variables include stone factors such as number, size, ...

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy of pancreatic stones.

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy of pancreatic stones was performed in eight patients with chronic pancreatitis and a dilated duct system harbouring stones 5 to 20 mm (means 10 (SD) 5 mm) in diameter. After endoscopic sphincterotomy of the pancreatic orifice the stones were disintegrated by shock waves under fluoroscopic control using a kidney lithotripter (Dornier HM3). The procedure was ...
